Parami Energy Signed MOU For Myanmar’s First Mini-Grids in MaGwe

Parami Energy signed MOU for Myanmar’s first mini-grids

Parami Energy is pleased to announce that Parami Renewable Energy, Électricité de France (EDF), and the Magwe Regional Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the possibility of bringing electricity via a 100% solar mini-grid of 3MW to over 7,000 households in Yesago Township, Magwe Division.

The Yesago area is located at the confluence of the Chindwin and Irrawaddy Rivers. The island has 42 villages had no road access and will not receive the national grid for years to come. This geography and population is well suited for a distributed energy system such as a mini-grid.

This is Myanmar’s first MOU for mini-grids of this scale. Providing access to energy can offer people in rural areas a supply of reliable, localized, and environmentally friendly power that can benefit the wider society, as well as foster SMEs and cottage industries. Once this proof of concept is demonstrated to be commercially, socially, and environmentally viable, it is Parami’s vision to scale up distributed energy systems across the country’s remote off-grid areas.
